SolarWinds

SolarWinds is a provider of solutions for observability, IT infrastructure monitoring, service management, databases, security, and incident response. The SolarWinds portfolio helps IT teams detect problems faster, better understand dependencies across the environment, reduce service downtime, and respond toincidents more efficiently. SolarWinds solutions are used across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments - from network, server, and application monitoring, through databases and logs, to ITSM, help desk, remote support, and incidentresponse management.

SolarWinds Observability – a central area of the SolarWinds portfolio is observability, meaning comprehensive visibility into the ITenvironment. SolarWinds solutions allow organizations to monitor infrastructure, applications, services, databases, networks, logs, metrics, and dependencies between components.

SolarWinds Observability is available in two models:

  1. SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted
A platform deployed in the customer's own environment - on-premises, in a private cloud, or in a self-hosted model. It is the successor to solutions previously known as Hybrid Cloud Observability and to theplatform historically associated with the Orion family. The self-hosted model is especially useful where anorganization requires full control over the environment, data, and integrations.
  2. SolarWinds Observability SaaS
A cloud-based observability platform for hybrid and cloud-native environments. It enables monitoring ofapplications, infrastructure, services, logs, metrics, traces, Kubernetes, and end-user experience.

Description of technology

NPM - Network Performance Monitoring

Administrative Tools - SolarWinds also provides practical tools for network and system administrators, supporting dailydiagnostics, environment mapping, infrastructure analysis, and secure file transfer. Example solutions: Engineer's Toolset, Network Topology Mapper, Serv-U Managed File Transfer, Kiwi Syslog Server.

Database Monitoring - SolarWinds also offers solutions for database performance monitoring and optimization. They help identifybottlenecks, analyze SQL queries, control instance workload, and diagnose issues that affect theperformance of business applications faster. Example solutions: database Performance Analyzer, DPA, SQL Sentry. Database Performance Analyzer supports performance analysis for many popular database platforms, while SQL Sentry is a solution specialized in monitoring Microsoft SQL Server environments.

IT Service Management - SolarWinds is also developing a separate portfolio area for IT teams responsible for ticket handling, servicemanagement, support process automation, and IT asset control. The central solution in this area is SolarWinds Service Desk - a cloud-based ITSM platform supporting thedaily work of service desk, help desk, and IT operations teams. The solution enables the handling of tickets, incidents, problems, changes, service catalog, knowledge base, SLAs, IT assets, and CMDB. Within the ITSM area, the following are worth highlighting: SolarWinds Service Desk, Web Help Desk, Dameware. This area of the portfolio is particularly important for organizations that want to organize user support, automate IT processes, improve service quality, and increase the efficiency of support teams.

Incident Response - SolarWinds Incident Response is a separate portfolio area related to operational incident response management. The solution supports IT, NOC, SRE, DevOps, and operations teams in handling alerts, on-callschedules, escalations, and coordination of remediation activities. Incident Response does not replace monitoring or SIEM. Its purpose is to organize the response process:collect alerts from different tools, reduce noise, route the issue to the right person or team, triggerescalation, and shorten the time needed to resolve the problem. The solution supports, among others: alert centralization and routing, reduction of duplicate alerts and alert noise, on-call schedule management, escalation paths, response automation, team collaboration during an incident, MTTR reduction. Observability helps detect and understand the problem, while Incident Response helps guide theorganization efficiently through response, escalation, and incident resolution.

Network, Infrastructure, and Application Monitoring - SolarWinds has long been recognized for its solutions for network and IT infrastructure monitoring.Products in this area allow organizations to control device availability, link performance, networkconfigurations, NetFlow traffic, IP addressing, servers, applications, virtual environments, and storageresources. Example solutions: Network Performance Monitor (NPM), Network Configuration Manager (NCM), NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA), IP Address Manager (IPAM), Server & Application Monitor (SAM), Virtualization Manager (VMAN), Storage Resource Monitor, SRM, Server Configuration Monitor (SCM).

Security, Logs, and Compliance - The SolarWinds portfolio also includes solutions supporting security, log analysis, access rightsmanagement, and compliance with audit requirements. Example solutions: Security Event Manager (SEM), Access Rights Manager (ARM), Kiwi Syslog Server. Security Event Manager supports centralized log analysis, correlation of security events, detection ofsuspicious activities, and compliance reporting. Access Rights Manager helps control user permissions andaccess to resources, while Kiwi Syslog Server enables the collection and analysis of syslog messages from ITdevices and systems.
